Impact of Virtual Synchronous Machines on Low-Frequency Oscillations in Power Systems

The low-frequency oscillations (LFOs) inherent in power systems will be impacted by the increasing penetration of renewable energy sources (RESs). This paper investigates impact virtual synchronous machine (VSM) based RESs on LFOs systems. A detailed two-machine test-bed has been developed to analyze which exists when VSMs replace generators. characteristics LFO modes, and dominant states have comprehensively analyzed. Furthermore, this study analyzes modes an all-VSM grid. role system stabilizers grid evaluated. IEEE benchmark two-area four-machine employed corroborate results small-signal analysis, observe transient performance. analysis performed MATLAB/SIMULINK environment.
